Davids workers need solidarity

By Jennifer Thompson

SYDNEY — The Davids warehouse workers' fight against the company's attempt to casualise the work force and gut working conditions is continuing. Unionists are picketing Jewel grocery stores in solidarity with the Davids' National Union of Workers members.

A two-hour picket at Jewel in Newtown on August 20 involved around 20 unionists handing out hundreds of leaflets explaining the dispute to shoppers. Less than a dozen people entered the store. Pickets at other stores have also been very effective.

The workers still need solidarity and anyone who can help leaflet Jewel stores on Thursdays or Fridays between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, or Saturdays between 12noon and 2pm or 2pm and 4pm, should contact 0417 655 119 or e-mail <sally@asu.org.au>.

Donations and visitors to the 24-hour picket lines at Davids' warehouses are also needed. The picket lines are at 4 Newington Road, Silverwater and 37 Bessemer Street, Blacktown.
