Pro Choice Cairns and March 4 Justice Cairns organised a well-attended march for abortion rights on July 10. About 100 people gathered to hear doctors Caroline de Costa and Heather McNamee, Bec Templeton and United States–born law student Mary Larson-Dennis before marching from the hospital along the Esplanade and back.
McNamee said more needed to be done to improve reproductive health access in regional areas. “We want Queensland Health and the health minister to go to each health district and go ‘Show me your pathway for abortion, show me how you are offering public abortion services to your community’,” she told the rally.
