Green Left Show #2: Free the Refugees — Partial victory and next steps as refugees released

January 31, 2021
Issue

Refugees and activists have celebrated the release of almost 50 refugees from the Park Hotel in Carlton and the Melbourne Immigration Transit Accommodation (MITA) on January 20-21. They are, however, keeping up the campaign so that the remaining refugees are released and receive permanent protection.

This episode of Green Left looks at the reasons for the government decision to release refugees and the next steps in the campaign. It features Amin Afravi, who is currently being detained at Brisbane Immigration Transit Accomodation, Moreland councillor Sue Bolton and Refugee Action Collective activist Chris Breen.
