School Strike 4 Climate

School Strike 4 Climate is encouraging unionists to move the following motion at meetings of their trade unions.

It is bad enough that our rulers insist on pushing ahead on a course so disastrous that when a new report says human civilisation could end by 2050, you think “that’s optimistic” as you just saw another report saying the Arctic is melting so rapidly the scientists trying to measure it keep losing their tools, but, honestly, do they need to be so fucking smug about it?

Mainstream talk of Queenslanders embracing the Coalition at the federal elections is louder than ever but the facts are otherwise, writes Jonathan Strauss.

After the milestone School Strike 4 Climate (SS4C) rallies on November 30 last year, the movement faces a critical point writes high school activist Leo Crnogorcevic.

When talking about climate change, it is assumed that the effects will only be seen 20 to 30 years from now. Some believe this means we have time — that we can afford to meander towards our so-called renewable energy and emission reduction “targets”.

This November 30, I, along with hundreds — possibly thousands — of high school students will be participating in a student strike for climate action, writes Leo Crnogorcevic.

It seems ridiculous that children have got to the point where they realise that the adults who are supposed to be in charge are not doing enough to protect our futures from dangerous climate change. So, together with kids from Kindergarten to Year 12 we have decided to strike from school to show them that this simply isn’t good enough.
