Manus Island Detention Centre

The Refugee Action Collective organised a vigil to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the murder of Iranian Kurdish refugee Reza Barati by guards at the Australian-run detention centre on Manus Island, writes Chris Slee.

Jason Siwat, a representative of the PNG Catholic Bishops Conference told a forum that refugees who were sent to Manus Island are now stuck in Papua New Guinea, reports Chris Slee.

In a case brought by Iranian Kurdish refugee Mostafa Azimitabar (“Moz”), Federal Court judge Bernard Murphy ruled that while hotel detention is inhumane, it is still legal. Chris Slee reports.
