Speaker: Nic Maclellan, journalist and researcher will talk on the impacts of global warming and the impact of rising sea levels in the Pacific islands; how climate change is affecting livelihoods for people living in our region and how government climate change policies are affecting people in neighbouring Pacific countries.

Public meeting: Chernobyl and Fukushima: the real health story.

Guest speaker is Carl-Magnus Larsson, CEO of Australia's radiation regulatory body ARPANSA.

Dr Larsson will speak about the soon-to-be-released UNSCEAR report on the radiation health effects of Chernobyl, and what it tells us about Fukushima. There will be time for discussion, led by MAPW's Associate Professor Tilman Ruff and Dr Peter Karamoskos.

Ask Australians what kind of home they want, and odds are they will say a detached house on a big block. The new report from the Grattan Cities Program, The Housing We'd Choose, shows that when residents are asked to make real-world trade-offs between housing and location, the picture is far more varied.

Come and hear Grattan Cities Program Director Jane-Frances Kelly in conversation with John Daley on the challenges to Australian cities and governments.
