Construction workers march for safe & decent conditions in Barangaroo site

Issue

On November 3, 2010 construction workers marched through Sydney CBD for a decent site allowance and conditions in the $6 billion-dollar Barangaroo development on Sydney's former wharves (the legendary "Hungry Mile").

Unions say the development could play a critical role in turning around a race to the bottom in the NSW building industry in terms of safety standards and decent working conditions but the federal Labor government's "Fair Work" Act and workplace health & safety law "harmonisation" may stand in the way.
