UNITED STATES: PBS bans lesbian mums

The Public Broadcasting Service pulled an episode of the children's television show Postcards From Buster on January 26 because it featured lesbian parents. In the episode, cartoon rabbit Buster visited the home of real-life children and their "mom and Gillian". The episode was pulled after the new federal education secretary sent a letter requesting it. PBS spokesperson Wayne Godwin justified the decision by claiming it would "not be an appropriate curricular purpose" to show the lesbian couple, because some children watching "would not have a parent with them to give it context". Previous episodes have shown Mormon and Pentecostal families.
