ACTION: We demand rent relief!

In NSW tenants are in dire need of rent relief.

One in three Australians rent - some 2.5 million households. A 2019 survey showed 40 per cent of tenants are in rental stress - they pay more than 30% of their income in rent.

In Sydney, one of the most expensive cities in the world, an extremely high 64% of all renters are in rental stress.

This is all before the COVID19 crisis.

With lay-offs, reduction of work hours, the prospect of JobSeeker and JobKeeper being removed, pay freezes for front-line workers being proposed, tenants are even more stressed.

ACTION: Stop Coal Seam Gas, Stop Santos

The Independent Planning Commission is expected to hand down their findings on Santos Coal Seam Gas proposal in The Pilliga Forest on September 30th, 2020.

We hope the Independent Planning Commission (IPC) will reject Santos plan to destroy this beautiful remanent arid eucalyptus forest and dig 850 gas wells within in.

If the project proceeds it will turn the Pilliga into an industrial waste land with all the associated destruction of land, water and places of significant cultural importance for the Gomeroi People who have consistently protested against this development.

Rally: Drop the Charge on Breen - Defend the Right to Protest, Free the Refugees

The full hearing for the charge of incitement against Chris Breen will be held on Wednesday 27 January and is expected to go for at least one day.

RAC will hold a solidarity rally at Melbourne Magistrates' Court at 233 William Street in the city from 8.30am. The event will be COVID-safe.

Sixty men are trapped in the Park hotel in Carlton. Their "crime" was being refugees, seeking asylum in Australia. Hundreds more remain languishing in Villawood, Kangaroo Point, Manus, Nauru, and other facilities. Their detention is a barbaric, inhumane abuse of human rights, a crime against humanity committed by the Australian government.

Tamil Oppression Day

The Government of Sri Lanka has organised events on the 4th of February to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of Sri Lanka's independence from British rule.

For Tamil speaking people on the island, this is the day one oppressor handed power over to another oppressor. For hundreds of years the Portugese, Dutch, and British oppressed all on the island. After independence, instead of solidarity however, the Sinhala-Buddhist chauvinist state decided to co-opt the ruthlessness of colonial rule - leading to countless pogroms and other heinous acts.
