Nuclear weapons begin with uranium mining. August marks the 75th anniversary of the first use of nuclear weapons in wartime.

On August 6, 1945, the Japanese city of Hiroshima was bombed, this was followed three days later by Nagasaki. Hundreds of thousands of people were killed, injured or displaced and the impacts of these two bombs continue to be felt.

Today the nuclear weapons are worse and the stakes even higher with escalating nuclear tensions counterposed by sustained work around the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapon’s push for a global ban on nuclear weapons.

Join former federal Senator and ICAN Ambassador Scott Ludlam, ICAN co-founder Dimity Hawkins and former federal Labor Minister and ICAN Ambassador Melissa Parke as they examine the history, the risks and the way forward.

Please join us in this special event to honour the past and help secure the future.
