Members of the Kurdish community and supporters rallied in Sydney on November 3 as part of World Resistance Day for Rojava, the Kurdish-majority territory in north-eastern Syria.

Initially known as World Kobanê Day, the day was first observed in November 2014 as a day of international support for the resistance of the people of Kobanê in Rojava who defeated the extremist forces of Islamic State (ISIS).

This year’s rally also focused on demanding an end to Turkey’s invasion of Rojava, which began on October 9.

Speakers at the rally included members of the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining & Energy Union, the Finance Sector Union, the Federation of Democratic Kurdish Society — Australia, the Greens, Extinction Rebellion and the Latin America Social Forum.
