World Awareness Week at Tas Uni

By Kate Booth

HOBART — A World Awareness Week was held on Tasmania Uni from August 19 to 23. Jointly organised by the university Greens, Resistance, CISLAC and Amnesty International, it aimed to reach the university population with a combination of speakers on topical issues and entertainment and information stalls.

Forums included the state coordinator of Amnesty International speaking on the aims and approaches of the organisation, the coordinator of the Wilderness Society, warning about the dangers of proposed resource security legislation, and speakers from Resistance and CISLAC who outlined the plight of women and the environment in the Third World.

Organisers aim to plan another week of events next year.
