As the gap between rich and poor widens, millions of workers around the world marched for workers’ rights on May Day.
May Day, also known as Labor Day, began in 1890 with the campaign for the 8-hour work day. It has since become a key day for workers’ campaigns around the world.
This May Day, workers marched against the fascist Rodrigo Duterte regime in the Philippines, against austerity and the rise of the far-right in Europe and against US President Donald Trump’s attacks on immigrants.
Low-paid workers in Indonesia marched for fair pay, millions of Cubans celebrated 60 years of the ongoing revolution, and in Australia unionists marched to reclaim the right to strike.
