Workers' football match for Korean unification

With a clear goal of helping to end the division of Korea, South Korea's Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the North's Korean General Confederation of Labour have scheduled a historic football match on August 10 in Pyongyang as an occasion for workers of the two states to meet and hold discussions. For five decades, mutual visits by citizens of North and South Korea were tightly controlled.

Billed "South and North Korean Workers' Football Gathering in Aspiration for Reunification", the event is scheduled to be followed by a similar gathering in August 2000, in Seoul.

With about half a million members, the KCTU is at the forefront of class struggle in South Korea, leading a number of workers' strikes since late 1996. It has a standing Reunification Committee. For details, e-mail <inter@kctu.org>.
