Irvin Jim, general secretary of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa, presented the 12th annual Ruth First Memorial Lecture at the University of Witswatersrand in Johannesburg, in memory of the revolutionary activist who was assassinated by the apartheid regime in 1982. Jim called for a return to the revolutionary ideals, first adopted as the program of the anti-aprtheid struggle in 1955.
