West Enders to march against Hanson

By Bill Mason

BRISBANE — A march and rally against racism, called by the Democratic Socialists and Resistance, is set to liven up the streets of West End on July 25. The theme is: "Hanson has no solutions! Support land rights! Welcome migrants!"

"Pauline Hanson has now even questioned Aborigines' fundamental right to vote", said rally organiser and Democratic Socialist federal election candidate for Brisbane, Graham Matthews. "We must step up the campaign against the racist cancer taking hold in this country."

The march in West End, the most multicultural of all Brisbane areas, aims to mobilise the strong anti-racist feeling in our communities, Matthews said. "That sentiment needs to be brought more into the open", he said, urging West End residents to join the march. The July 25 rally will follow the successful actions organised by the Democratic Socialists and Resistance in the Melbourne suburbs of Brunswick and Footscray earlier this month.

The march will begin at 12noon on the corner of Melbourne and Boundary Streets, and proceed along Boundary Street, finishing at People's Park. For more information, phone 3254 0565.
