Thirty five people attended a forum on June 25 entitled “100% Equality” hosted by WA Greens MLC and spokesperson for diversity, gender and sexuality, Lynn Maclaren.

The forum discussed the campaign for marriage equality and other issues facing the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex community.

Speakers included former Australian Democrats senator Brian Greig; Australians for Marriage Equality campaign coordinator Rodney Croome; Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) spokesperson, and senior Australian of the year, Shelley Argent; and educators Daniel Witthaus and Dr Suzanne Covich.

Croome said that the main reason he supported marriage equality was because of the sense of recognition and social inclusion that it would give same sex couples. Argent said marriage equality would give her gay son the same right to get married as her other son.

The forum also discussed homophobic bullying in the education system.

Maclaren urged people to attend the Perth rally for Same Sex Marriage Equality on August 13.
