WA Greens choose senator

By Frank Noakes

PERTH — The Greens WA have chosen a new senator to replace Jo Vallentine, who steps down on January 31, 1992.

Christabel Chamarette, formerly better known as Christabel Bridge, but now using her maiden name, is a psychologist and social justice activist. She won a postal ballot in which there were six candidates.

"I may not be perceived as being as fiery as Jo, but I share the same convictions", she said.

Social justice, environment and peace were all closely related Chamarette said. She will serve the remaining four years of the six year term. Keen to cooperate with the Australian Democrats she did not think a merger with the Greens was on the agenda yet.
