Venezuelan victory celebrated

Issue

Supporters of Venezuela's Bolivarian revolution gathered at the Queensberry Hotel on February 21 to celebrate 10 years of the revolution and the "yes" vote in the February 15 referendum. The referendum removed the constitutional barrier to President Hugo Chavez seeking re-election.

Federico Fuentes, who has spent the last year-and-a-half working at the Miranda International Centre research institute in Venezuela and writing for Green Left Weekly, outlined the importance of the referendum victory for the revolution, and debunked the media myth that Chavez would now be "dictator for life".

The meeting also heard from Jo Williams, recently returned from the first ever Australian education study tour, who spoke about the important gains in the sphere of education brought about by the revolution.

The meeting was organised by the Australia-Venezuela Solidarity Network. Visit http://www.venezuelasolidarity.org.
