Venezuelan solidarity campaign launched

BRISBANE — "The Venezuelan people would give their lives to defend the revolution, to defend Chavez", Venezuelan activist Eulalia Whitney told an official launch of the Venezuela solidarity campaign on March 11.

Thirty people attended a night of Latin music, food and festivity to raise funds for the Australian solidarity brigade to Venezuela to depart in July.

Whitney defended President Hugo Chavez's radical program of redistributing Venezuela's wealth in favour of the country's poor majority.

"If learning to read and write is revolutionary, then we are proud to be revolutionaries", Whitney said. She urged those attending the campaign launch to come on the brigade to experience the reality of the revolution.
