CANBERRA — The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela celebrated its national independence day on July 5 under the theme "For true independence and sovereignty".

Around 60 members of the diplomatic corps, the Australia-Venezuela Solidarity Network (AVSN) and members of the local community marked the day as guests of the Venezuelan Embassy at a reception at the Showcase Gallery, where a collection of photos and crafts of Venezuela's indigenous peoples was on display.

Venezuela's Charge d'Affairs in Australia, Nelson Davila, hosted the reception, which was also addressed by AVSN Canberra convener Alison Dellit.
