VENEZUELA: Chavez says Hamas welcome

On February 13, Venezuela's vice-president, Jose Vicente Rangel, said that his government would welcome leaders of the Islamic group Hamas, which recently won the Palestinian elections, if they visited Venezuela during an expected tour of the region. "Of course we will. What is the problem?", Rangel told reporters. The United States and the European Union consider Hamas a terrorist organisation and the US and other Western countries have threatened to cut off aid to Palestine following the party's electoral victory.
