US youth barred from going to Cuba

By Paul Howes

PARIS — Around 500 young activists from the United States have been blocked by the US government from attending the 14th World Festival of Youth and Students, being held in Havana, Cuba.

Youth organisations around the world have condemned the decision. In Paris, a 300-strong demonstration called by the Communist Youth was held outside the US embassy.

Similar demonstrations have been organised by the World Federation of Democratic Youth in Prague, Bonn, Madrid, Moscow and Cape Town. WFDY has urged activists around the world to send protest letters and faxes to the US embassy or consulate in their city.
