Unions back Iraq rally

March 9, 2007
Issue

Several NSW unions have decided to endorse the March 17 Sydney rally against the war in Iraq, organised by the Stop the War Coalition. They are the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA); the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union; the NSW Fire Brigade Employees Union; and the National Tertiary Education Union.

The rally, which will mark the fourth anniversary of the invasion, will call for foreign troops to leave Iraq. It will also call for Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks to be returned to Australia.

The NSW Teachers Federation is advising its councillors about the rally. Unions NSW is notifying all of its affiliates and urging them to attend the protest.
