Why

To mark Refugee Week 2022, you are invited to a BBQ to welcome refugees, to be held in the loading bay at Trades Hall.

All refugees are welcome with free entry. Non-refugees pay $10 and are encouraged to buy their ticket in advance.

The union movement has long argued that fighting for refugee rights is union business.

We have more in common with our sisters and brothers fleeing war and persecution than we have with those who turn "strong borders" into a political weapon.

Morrison is gone but there is still much to fight for: permanent visas for the tens of thousands on bridging visas, temporary visas and SHEV visas, the end of offshore detention, safety for the 14,000 refugees marooned in Indonesia by a decision of Tony Abbott, and much more.

This BBQ is a chance to welcome refugees into our community and our movement.

It is organised by Unionists for Refugees, Victorian Trades Hall Council and the Health and Community Services Union.
