Unfree liberators

Liberators is a 90-minute special on the role of black US soldiers in World War II, with a particular focus on the battalions that freed prisoners of the Buchenwald and Dachau concentration camps.

Black soldiers of course had an additional enemy besides the Nazis — the racism that kept them segregated even within the army.

Liberators screens on SBS television on Wednesday, November 11, 8.30 p.m. eastern time.
