Taxi drivers meet

Issue

MELBOURNE — On September 10, a meeting of 52 taxi drivers at the Richmond Town Hall decided to promote the formation of the Victorian Taxi Drivers Association. Socialist Party Yarra city councillor Steve Jolly told the meeting that the VTDA needed to organise before the November 25 state election, as mainstream politicians "will forget about you after the election".

The VTDA was initiated after the death of part-time taxi driver Rajneesh Joga on August 8 and long-standing safety concerns led to a number of protest demonstrations last month involving up to 600 taxi drivers. To join the VTDA, phone Tom on 0401 454 8866.
