SYDNEY — Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's welcome for right-wing Israeli vice PM Silvan Shalom on December 3 was protested against by about 100 people in Martin Place.

Organised by Students for Palestine and the Gaza Defence Committee, the protest was addressed by Palestinian Australians and activists supporting the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.

Speakers condemned the ALP for its role in legitimising war criminals, and called on the Israeli government to lift the siege of Gaza, end the occupation of Palestine and stop the building of settlements.
