The Sydney Underground Film Festival — five tickets to give away

Issue

Last year, the Sydney Underground Film Festival hosted the Australian premier of Oliver Stone's documentary on Latin America's revolutions South of the Border. This year, the festival is taking place this year on September 8-11 at the The Factory Theatre in Marrickville.

Festival organisers have five double passes to giveaway for the film Better This World (see below) to Green Left Weekly readers. Be one of the first to email  stefanie@suff.com.au  with the subject line “911” to win.

This years festival will be presenting a wild, edgy, unconventional and political program that will titillate the senses and provide Sydney film goers with a cinema experience they will never forget! This year’s highlights include:

The Ballad of Genesis & Lady Jane —  A film that centres around the daring sexual transformations Genesis P-Orridge (Throbbing Gristle) and Lady Jaye, so that he could become a she and resemble his beloved Lady Jaye.

Pixel Pirate 2: The Directors Cut — A thoroughly entertaining critique of intellectual property law and a speculative history of sample-based culture that takes the form of a sci-fi/biblical epic/action movie.

Profane — A film about a young Muslim sex worker in the midst of a spiritual crisis. The Director Usama Alshaibi combines his background in political documentary and transgressive cinema to tell an intensely personal story about the clash between Western and Middle Eastern cultures.

Better This World — A film bout two boyhood friends from Midland, Texas — David McKay and Bradley Crowder — who fall under the sway of a charismatic revolutionary 10 years their senior. This leads to eight homemade bombs, multiple domestic terrorism charges and a high stakes entrapment defense hinging on the actions of a controversial FBI informant. A dramatic story that goes to the heart of the War on Terror and its impact on civil liberties and political dissent in post-9/11 America.
