Stan Plumridge

By Peter Limb

PERTH — Veteran peace and social justice worker Stan Plumridge died here on June 15, aged 84. He was active in the working class, peace and anti-fascist movements in England, raising funds in the Spanish Civil War and serving in the Medical Corps in North Africa and Palestine in World War II.

Stan came to Australia in the 1960s and was a tireless worker for peace, socialism and, more recently, in the environmental and anti-racist movements. He was much loved by progressive people in Perth, where his warmth, generosity and refusal to abandon a single progressive principle made him many friends. His only enemies were the warmongers, greedy capitalists and corrupt politicians whom he loved to confront with the truth.

His loss will be sorely missed by many, but Stan wanted everyone to keep fighting and doing this will be one way of remembering him. Deepest sympathy to his children and grandchildren.
