South Sydney Greens select candidates

SYDNEY — South Sydney Greens have announced candidates for two seats in the coming NSW elections.

Well-attended meetings in Redfern and Newtown selected Mark Berriman to contest the seat of Heffron and Bruce Welch for Marrickville.

"Both candidates are well known for their concern for social justice and environmental issues, and they will offer a real choice to electors looking for an alternative to the major parties", said Greens spokesperson Colin Hesse.

Mark Berriman won almost 13% of the vote in a 1990 by-election for Heffron. Bruce Welch won about 3% in a field of 10 contesting the Grayndler electorate in the 1990 federal elections.
