JOHANNESBURG — On March 23, 1000 anti-war campaigners gathered near Wanderers Stadium, the venue for the one-day cricket World Cup final between Australia and India. The anti-war protesters condemned the Australian government's participation in the US-British invasion of Iraq. “We want to use the World Cup as an opportunity to support the Australian people against its government's warmongering”, Anti-War Coalition spokesperson Salim Vally said. After the demonstration the protesters picketed the US consulate in Houghton Estate. Photo by Claire Decoteau.
