SOS for Parra ferries

October 10, 2009
Issue

One hundred people gathered at Parramatta ferry wharf on October 9 to call on the NSW government to abandon plans to privatise Sydney Ferries. The protest was organised by Save Our Sydney Ferries, a coalition of unions and public transport support groups.

The state government is proposing to force Sydney Ferries to tender against private corporations, notably French company Veolia.

Veteran labour-rights campaigner and former Green Bans organiser Jack Mundey addressed the protest, calling on those present to make a commitment to wage the campaign until it was victorious. The rally was also addressed by local ALP state MP Tania Gadiel and a ferry worker.
