Solidarity with Cuba

MEXICO CITY — Some 15,000 Mexican and other Latin American personalities have signed a letter of support for the Cuban Revolution which will be presented at the Madrid Ibero-American Summit.

The document, which was presented to the Mexican Foreign Ministry on July 20, demands respect for Cuba's right to self-determination, the immediate lifting of the US's 30-year economic, political and cultural embargo against the island, an end to Washington's military and political harassment of Cuba, and US withdrawal from the illegally occupied naval base at Guantánamo.

Among the signatories were renowned Colombian novelist Gabriel García Marquez, Uruguayan writer Mario Benedetti and Brazilian political leader Ignacio Lula da Silva.
