Socialists launch new e-mail bulletin

By Al McCall

As an adjunct to its political campaigns, the Democratic Socialists have launched an e-mail based information service. Called DS_NET, it is geared toward generating information about the work the party is involved in day to day.

DS_NET coordinator and Democratic Socialist Party member Dave Riley said: "We launched it as an adjunct to our candidature in the Queensland state election. It was a pilot project at first, something we wanted to try in order to see if we could draw in folk who visit our web pages. But after the success of One Nation and the DSP's decision to launch a major offensive against Hansonism, DS_NET has now taken on a national, indeed an international, significance in our work."

Riley says DS_NET is picking up new subscribers daily. "This response so early in the piece has taken me by surprise. It seems that the Hanson factor has encouraged many people into action. And the DSP's aggressive campaign work against racism has struck a chord among a layer of people who want to link up with our ready activism.

"In fact, when I started to draw together material on what the Democratic Socialists are doing nationally just on this one issue of racism and One Nation, I thought to myself: that's pretty impressive. It's that kind of energy, and that kind of collective spirit we want to reflect in DS_NET.

"At present, I don't know how often we'll send out bulletins, but we'll try to make them fresh, informative and essential reading without being too long. There will be news items, statements, press releases, calendars and the like drawn from all areas of the party's work. It's an essential introduction to what makes the DSP tick."

To subscribe to DS_NET, send an e-mail message to <dhell@ozemail.com.au> with the words "SUBSCRIBE DS_NET" in the subject header, or visit the party's web page at <http://www.peg.apc.org/~dsp>.
