BY GRAHAM MATTHEWS

MELBOURNE — Representatives of the International Socialist Organisation, Democratic Socialist Party, Freedom Socialist Party, Workers' Liberty, Workers' Power, Socialist Democracy, the Progressive Labor Party and the Worker Communist Party of Iraq met on March 6 to organise the launch of the Socialist Alliance here. The meeting set the launch for April 10 at Brunswick Town Hall.

A range of individuals from the indigenous, trade union, queer and other movements who support the draft platform of the alliance will be approached to give greetings at the launch. A number of speakers from the parties in the Socialist Alliance will introduce the project and encourage those attending the meeting to join.

A target of 400-500 participants was set. The meeting felt that it should be possible to join at least 500 members to the Socialist Alliance in Victoria alone. A decision was taken to register the Socialist Alliance at both a state and federal levels in Victoria.

The meeting decided to draft a comprehensive membership survey form to gauge the areas of interest and affiliation of prospective Socialist Alliance members. An email address is to be established for the Alliance at <alliance.org>. Phone 9639 8622, 9386 4815 and 9388 0062 for more information.
