Robert Manne's most recent Quarterly Essay, 'Bad News: Murdoch's Australian and the Shaping of the Nation' critically examined the impact of Murdoch's media power in Australia and the politics and practices of the national newspaper that 'has come to see itself as judge, jury and would-be executioner of leaders and policies'.
The essay has sparked a bitter dispute between The Australian, and Manne and his supporters. In the Shop on October 19 Manne will talk on the essay and its fallout.
Robert Manne is a professor of politics at La Trobe University and has written and published extensively on Australian politics.
