Refugee solidarity tour

Issue

Picture

Dozens of refugee rights supporters are travelling around Australia in a brightly painted 51-seater bus, visiting refugee detention centres and speaking at public events in numerous towns.

The tour aims to show solidarity with detainees through visiting them and holding protests outside the centres. It will also help to link more pro-refugee groups into a national campaign network. The activists will launch the national "welcome book" in all towns visited.

The activists will arrive in Port Hedland on January 26 for a protest action the next day. There will be public meetings held in Darwin on February 5, Townsville on February 13, Brisbane on February 16, Newcastle on February 22. The tour will conclude in an action outside Villawood detention centre on February 24.
