Refugee Rights Community Picnic

Saturday, December 11, 2010 - 12:30 to 14:30

Community Picnic to mark International Human Rights Day...
Refugees are Welcome!

Gregson Park, Hamilton
12:30pm, Saturday 11th December, 2010
(weather permitting)

An end of year picnic for refugee rights, and to mark International Human Rights Day.

In 1948 the UN signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Over 50 years later, politicians and the media are still using refugees as political footballs, with mandatory detention, deportations, and the scapegoating of asylum seekers as "illegal" . These actions ignore Article 14 of the declaration, which specifically states that "everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution."
Come along to reflect on the past year, discuss refugee rights issues, and meet like-minded people.
No one is illegal!

All welcome.
Please feel free to bring along a plate of food to share, picnic blankets, frisbees, friends, soccer balls, hula hoops, kites, drums & other instruments, or just bring yourself!

Initiated by Refugee Action Network Newcastle.
