PREVIEW BY AZLAN McLENNAN

Melbourne artist Van Rudd responds to the contemporary political climate with his new art project entitled Portrait of an Exploding Terrorist. The project is to consist of a graphic painting by Rudd of a figure blowing themselves up in front of Australia's pre-eminent tourist icon: the Sydney Opera House. The artwork also includes flags of imperialist countries: the US, UK, Australia and Israel.

Rudd has made a name for himself with his "carriers" project, an ongoing project, where Rudd carries his political artworks through the city and political demonstrations. Rudd will carry his latest Portrait in the Fringe Festival.

Trocadero Art Space in Footscray will also advertise Rudd's work with a teaser billboard. The work is sure to fuel the fires of conservative outrage, so soon after Israel's attacks on Lebanon and Palestine and with the Liberals' ongoing commitment to the "war on terror". To view Rudd's art/performance, meet at Flinders Street Station, Melbourne at 1pm on September 29 and 30, and October 6, 7 and 13.
