Reclaim the Night Illawarra: Ending the Violence Against Women

Thursday, October 29, 2015 - 17:30

On the 29th October 2015, from 5:30-7pm Reclaim the Night will be held in the Illawarra to work towards ending the violence experienced by all those with lived experience as women, in their workplaces, on the streets, and in their lives. The march will begin at Civic Plaza on Burelli Street and end at the old ampitheatre steps in the mall.

Reclaim the Night is a worldwide grassroots movement encouraging communities to band together and rally against the violence experienced by women everyday by taking back the streets in a safer, public space.

While the event is not autonomous (meaning that everyone is invited to join) and families will be extremely welcomed and thoroughly accommodated in the rally, there will be some aspects where attendees will be ask to select themselves out, remaining only if they have lived experience as a woman. This will include for the candle lighting ceremony, where we will be holding a space for the women who have died as a result of domestic violence in 2015.
