Why

73 years of apartheid terror in Palestine. 233 years of imperial terror in Australia. A world away from each other, but the struggles against colonialism and genocide are echoed.

June 5th is the commemoration of Naksa Day, when the Gaza Strip and West Bank were seized by the Israeli military. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forced to flee, and the violence inflicted against the remaining Palestinian population has only grown more blatant ever since, culminating in the latest round of military terror being inflicted against them.

June 6th is one year since, during the earthshaking Black Lives Matter protests of 2020, 50,000 people gathered at Town Hall to oppose the colonial terror being inflicted against Indigenous people, which has seen over 400 reported First Nations deaths in police custody. Despite this show of public outrage, this murderous system has not stopped, with nine more Indigenous people being killed in police custody since March of 2021.

Now, on the weekend on which both these dates fall, we are calling for the First Nations community, the Palestinian community, and all supporters of justice to rally at Town Hall as a show of solidarity and shared outrage. We demand an end to the genocide and racist apartheid which is being imposed against both communities, and the right to autonomy and sovereignty over land for all First Nations peoples globally.

We demand that our government stops giving financial and material support to the fascist, genocidal regime of Israel, and also that it ceases the dispossession, murder and terror against Indigenous people under its own jurisdiction.

The forces of colonialism and imperialism have no country, they have no faith, they have no ethnicity, and they have no morality. But they do have immense military and political power, and the only way to overwhelm these forces is through solidarity, unity and community strength.

We encourage all people who support peace, freedom and justice to take to the streets and fight for what is right!
