The Crimes Amendment (Zoe's Law) Bill has seriously negative implications for women's reproductive rights in NSW. It seeks to grant 'personhood' status to foetuses after 20 weeks. This will set a dangerous precedent in a state where the legality of abortion is already ambiguously defined in the Crimes Act.
The current bill being moved by Liberal MP Chris Spence has the backing of the Attorney-General (and former president of NSW Right to Life), Greg Smith. The bill is opposed by a broad range of women's, legal, community and political groups including Family Planning NSW, the NSW Bar Association, the Greens and Women's Health NSW.
It's crucial we hit the streets in a public and loud display of opposition.
