Rally and march to Defend Wikileaks

Saturday, January 15, 2011 - 13:00

Defend WikiLeaks, Support Julian Assange! Speakers include Anthony Loewenstein (independent journalist); David Shoebridge (NSW Greens); Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance representative; Wendy Bacon (activist and academic).

Rally at Sydney Town Hall, George Street.

The threats against Julian Assange and WikiLeaks continue. The US Government is attempting to charged Assange, while prominent politicians and media have called for him to be "hunted down" and even assassinated. Even the US Vice President likened Assange to a “high-tech terrorist”.

The Australian government has backed the US campaign to silence Wikileaks, with PM Gillard stating, without any evidence, that WikiLeak's actions are “illegal”. This was later contradicted by the the Federal Police that investigated and found that Wikileaks and Assange had no case to answer under Australian law.

The war on WikiLeaks and Assange is an attack on the freedom of information and speech. We demand the Australian Govenrment not be complicit in the attacks on WikiLeaks and Assange. Join the protest to support WikiLeaks in revealing the truth about what our governments are up to.

Organised by the Support WikiLeaks Coalition
