That's History — Holding On To Our Culture: The Sikhs in Northern NSW — Banana growing in the Coffs Harbour area is dominated by Sikh people who originally came from Punjab. Many of these people have grandparents who settled in Australia before Federation and before the White Australia policy shut them out. Now, nearly 100 years later, the community is getting larger and is strongly committed to reinforcing its language and customs. ABC Radio National, Friday, August 12, 7.10pm.

The Science Show — A Culture of Safety — John Merson continues his examination of energy needs in our region with a close look at moves to build nuclear power plants in Indonesia and the Philippines. Corruption claims have already caused the mothballing of one plant in the Philippines. In Indonesia, the government enthusiastically supports a nuclear program that would lead to the construction of five power stations on Java, home to 180 million people. Fictions — The Dreamers — By Jack Davies. The Dreamers is Aboriginal playwright and poet Jack Davis' first major stage success. The play combines the contemporary story of an Aboriginal family struggling for survival in a run-down Perth suburb, with the dreams of Uncle Worru. The cast, which includes Davis, is drawn from the growing community of Aboriginal actors. ABC Radio National, Sunday, August 14, 3.05pm.

A Portrait Of Eileen Joyce — This portrait depicts Eileen Joyce's life from her childhood in Boulder, Western Australia, through her whirlwind musical career, to her final years in Surrey, England. Music in the program includes: Grainger, Beethoven, Liszt, Ravel, Chopin, Rachmaninov and others. ABC Classic FM, Sunday, August 14, 8pm.

Soundstage — Beecham — By Caryl Brahms and Ned Sherrin. There are two golden rules for an orchestra — start together and finish together, the public doesn't give a damn what goes on in between, said Sir Thomas Beecham. This plays features the life of the famous conductor. ABC Classic FM, Tuesday, August 16, 8pm.

Locked In — The first national radio link exploring prison issues and culture. Featuring news, views, information and interviews from around Australia and the world. The program is produced in the studios of 4ZZZ in Brisbane and broadcast via the Community Radio Satellite Network in Sydney to community radio stations around Australia.   • Live Commonwealth Games Coverage — ABC Radio will present the Games from Victoria, Canada, between August 19 and August 29. Broadcasts will include all regular news bulletins. Normal programming will be changed to allow for the live coverage.
