Qantas valet workers supported

On March 7 a successful community assembly of up to 150 union and community activists shut down Qantas valet parking operations at Melbourne Airport.

The action was in support of Australian Services Union members who were either forced onto Australian Workplace Agreements or sacked for refusing to sign them.

Two-thirds of the ASU members were reportedly sacked after refusing to sign AWAs that resulted a huge loss of conditions compared to their collective agreement. Jobs of 70 staff at Melbourne's Qantas terminal were put in jeopardy when a new contractor took over valet parking on March 1.
