Public meeting: Support the Kobanê war orphans school.

Thursday, August 11, 2016 - 18:30

Thursday, August 11

In 2014-15 the northern Syrian city of Kobanê was besieged by the barbaric Islamic State. Kurdish defence forces won an epic victory but the city was wrecked. Today, despite a vicious Turkish embargo, Kobanê is slowly rebuilding. The Kurdish community in Australia is trying to raise $400,000 to help build a school for war orphans in the city. The school will be run on enlightened, democratic principles. Hear a panel of speakers address this important project. Chairperson: Colin Long (NTEU state secretary). By Skype from Kobanê, Hawzhin Azeez (president of the Kobanê Reconstruction Board).
6:30pm. $5/$3. Old Council Chambers, Trades Hall, cnr Lygon & Victoria Sts, Carlton South. Organised by Australians for Kurdistan.
