Western suburbs migrant, refugee and working-class communities will be especially hard hit by the Baillieu Government's $300 million cuts to TAFEs. It will take away our community's right to access public education and training. At the same time the government has set aside $500 million to build a new prison in the western suburbs. The cuts of $39.5 million to Victoria University will mean the loss of 100 teaching positions and many courses. Students will also have to expect large fee hikes under this new scheme.
Speakers: Leesa Wheelahan (Melbourne University), Colleen Hartland, (Greens MLC), Annie Nash (manager of state wide support service for women exiting prison), Margarita Windisch (Victoria University TAFE teacher & AEU member), Colin Long (NTEU Victorian state secretary). Organised by Friends of Victoria University.
