Public meeting: Resistance meeting: Marxism, Post-Modernism and Philosophy.

Saturday, June 23, 2012 - 14:30

Join Resistance Melbourne for this branch meeting and educational on Marxism, Post-Modernism and Philosophy. Since Marx and Engels day, many theories have been devised by various theorists such Michel Foucault, Pierre Bourdieu, Max Weber and many others, either to discredit the theoretical notions of Marxism or to elaborate on it further and rework it, in the cases of Foucault and Bourdieu, but where do socialists stand on the issue of philosophy? Can it be useful in our day to day political dealings, do they have any value in the context of the struggle? Are theories such as post-modernism and post-structuralism being taught on university campuses a hinderance to engaging new young activists in the struggle for socialism? Also on the agenda are executive election, reportback on Green Left TV, reportback on our Young workers zine and discussion on the upcoming Resistance National Conference. After the meeting we will be leafleting outside a Gloria Jeans coffee house store in the CBD to protest the huge donations which they have provided to the homophobic Australian Christian Lobby. 2:30pm. Level 5/407 Swanston St, City (Opposite RMIT). Organised by Resistance & Socialist Alliance.
