Public meeting: Democracy & rule of law in Sri Lanka.

Sunday, March 25, 2012 - 16:00

Following on from last month's crackdown on protesting fishing communities where one person was killed by security personnel, reports are that Herman Kumara, a longtime human right activist, is facing threats to his life. Kumara is one of the founding members of the Platform for Freedom in Sri Lanka and has collaborated with civil society organisations and trade unions across the country to give voice to those who wanted to express disagreement against oppressive government policies. This public forum will discuss issues of human rights in Sri Lanka. Speakers: Basil Fernando (director Policy & Program Development, Asian Human Rights Commission); Britto Fernando (president Right to Life, co-convenor Platform for Freedom).

Rotunda R4, Building 8, Monash University Clayton Campus, Wellington Rd, Clayton (Melway 70 G10). Organised by People for Human Rights & Equality. For more info ph Ajith 0427 610 823 or Chitra 0408 480 358.
